Write a short note on Frankfurt-Parliament?

As a result of the French revolution of 1848 A.D, a revolution also took place in Austria, Metternich fled away to England, because all circumstances were quite against him. The success of revolution in Austria led to revolts in many states of Germany. The rulers of various states including Prussia, gronted rule to their states.

To unite Germany and to provide constitution for the united Germany, a parliament met at Frankfurt on 18 May 1848 A.D. This parliament proposed the unification of Germany under the King of Prussia. The King of Prussia, however, opposed the idea of becoming a constitutional monarch and declined the offer. Repression soon followed and thousand of Germany revalutionaries fled to live in exile. Thus ended the first phase of the Unification of Germany.
